The month of May not only means the opening of Tempe Town Lake, but it kicks off the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association’s 2016 race season! Na Leo O Ke Kai will take their finest to compete from May 14 at Crystal Pier to September 10-11 at Catalina Island.
But that’s not all. This season marks the first time Na Leo (and Arizona) will train and field a men’s crew for the iconic Molokai Hoe in Hawaii. Helping the crew on their way are six great sponsors, most recently Riverbound Sports Paddle Company, who has supplied speed coach performance monitoring systems to hone our crew’s race training.
While our outrigger paddlers train primarily on Tempe Town Lake, we also have our individual paddlers representing at the 2016 World Sprints in Australia this month, racing the CAL100 in June, The Gorge Downwind Champs in July, and Vaka Eiva and Motu2Motu in the Cook Islands in the fall.
