April means ramping up outrigger canoe training and skills. This month, our coaches and crew meet with Johnny Puakea, for a one-on-one coaching experience. Thank you to coach Kahea Mendes for arranging this special training event.
April also means Shakafest, an all day festival of Hawaiian culture, arts and athletics in Mission Bay, hosted by Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club. This year, more than 40 keiki will attend from Na Leo O Ke Kai Keiki program, run by coach Christel Savoy, with assistants Lena, Joey and Tahlia. If you want to join in the fun, practices on are Sunday mornings, 8 a.m.
And let’s not forget huli drills! This year we will host the club’s drills on May 6th at Butcher Jones Beach Park on Saguaro Lake. This is a mandatory requirement for SCORA. Of course, huli drills will also mean fun with the whole crew and potluck BBQ for the whole family. Look for details on our FaceBook page.
